Brushless Permanent Magnet Machines - Modelling, Analysis and Design

The paper offers an overview of electromagnetic modelling, analysis and design techniques for brushless permanent magnet machines with the main target to help engineers to enhance the performances and reduce the costs of the electric actuators – two crucial issues considering the hard competition on the market.

 

The brushless permanent machine technology will be introduced with all important aspects including the control. The basics of electromagnetic design will be reviewed. An overview of efficient optimization algorithms will be presented. The modelling and analysis (calculation of parameters and performance) used for the estimation of the design quality will be treated focusing finally on the design methods.

 

Several case studies considered for small permanent magnet electric machines will emphasize the design techniques.
